The History of Fleetwood Caravans

Fleetwood were founded in 1966 in Chadwell Heath, London, moving then to Colchester in Essex, and finally in 1976 to Long Melford.

These areas might ring a bell to you, as 2 of Fleetwood’s best selling Caravans were named after their manufacturing location, the Colchester & Melford.

Fleetwood continued to grow and expand enabling them to extend their area of operations into Europe while the company was still around. Fleetwood shipped their builds to France, Germany,Belgium, Holland, Sweden & Denmark.

Along came 1987, Fleetwood joined alongside the Swedish based KABE group, who owned them until 2003. Until they sold 50% of their share to Adria.

On Tuesday 6th January 2009, along came D-Day. Fleetwood filed for administration, several endeavours were made to sell the company, but unfortunately this was not successful.
